Position Overview:
The Process Engineer II serves as a frontline technical leader within the Hillsboro plant, responsible for ensuring stable, safe, and efficient operation of a major process unit generating $50MM–$200MM in annual revenue. This role is embedded in daily plant operations, working closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to maintain the process at target conditions for throughput, raw material utilization, energy efficiency, and product specifications.
To support reliable operations, the Process Engineer II establishes and maintains robust systems for data collection, performance monitoring, and routine auditing, enabling rapid identification of process deviations and equipment issues.Through disciplined application of troubleshooting and problem-solving methodologies—including RCCA, 5 Whys, Kepner-Tregoe, JM Solve-It, and Six Sigma tools—the engineer drives timely corrective actions and prevents recurrence.
In addition, the role plays a key part in continuous improvement efforts, focusing on optimizing process performance, improving product quality, and reducing the cost of poor quality. By analyzing process data and operating trends, the Process Engineer II identifies opportunities for process optimization and collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable improvements. This includes regularly reviewing and refining raw material specifications and operating parameters to enhance overall process capability and plant profitability.
Your-Day-to-Day:
Perform continuous analysis identifying areas for improvement and corrective actions.
Manage the quality assurance department including direct management of multiple quality assurance technicians.
Develop standard control processes and standard operating procedures.
Defines the process set points for all different product types and creates the associated management tools (e.g., set up sheets in MII, SOP's …)
Actively support improvement of safety performance by encouraging safe behaviors of the team and engaging in the process to improve the JM safety culture
Create and maintain knowledge of the latest technologies and evaluate for use in current process and future processes
Work closely with internal and external resources to resolve technical issues. Shares learnings and findings in a proactive way in the technical community and potentially participates in the JM COE's
Work with multiple operations / functions to identify process improvement opportunities
