Build & Release Engineer (Mexico, Columbia, CostaRica, India) - Contract - 100% Remote
Title: Build & Release Engineer (Mexico, Columbia, CostaRica, India)
Location: 100% Remote CST time zone
Type: Contract long term
About the Role
Mid-to-senior Build & Release Engineer to own how our software gets from committed code to production and app store — across both our SaaS web platform and native mobile apps (iOS and Android). You'll design and run the CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, artifact management, and release processes that let engineering teams ship frequently and safely. This is a hands-on role for someone who cares about repeatable, low-drama releases and wants to bring order and automation to build and release engineering across two very different delivery models.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines across SaaS (web/backend) and mobile (iOS/Android) codebases, covering build, test, packaging, and deployment stages.
Own release automation for mobile — versioning, code signing, provisioning profiles, phased rollouts, and App Store/Play Store submissions — and for SaaS — automated deploys, environment promotion, and rollback procedures.
Define and maintain branching strategies (trunk-based, GitFlow, release trains, etc.) appropriate to each platform's release cadence and risk profile.
Manage artifact repositories and dependency management (e.g., Artifactory, Nexus, npm/Maven/CocoaPods registries) — versioning, retention, promotion, and access control.
Own changelog and release notes generation and distribution — automating changelog creation from commit history/PRs and coordinating release communications with product and support teams.
Coordinate release trains and hotfix processes across multiple teams, balancing SaaS's continuous deployment cadence against mobile's app-store review and rollout constraints.
Build and maintain build infrastructure (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, Fastlane, Codemagic, Bitrise) and keep it fast, reliable, and well-monitored.
Implement and enforce environment and configuration management practices (secrets, feature flags, environment parity) across pipelines.
Monitor build and release health — build times, failure rates, deployment frequency, rollback rates — and drive improvements to release velocity and reliability.
Partner with mobile and SaaS engineering teams to troubleshoot build failures, flaky tests, and pipeline bottlenecks.
Establish and document build/release standards, runbooks, and change-management processes.
Mentor engineers on CI/CD practices, release hygiene, and build tooling as needed.
What You'll Bring
4-7+ years of experience in build/release engineering, DevOps, or a related role, with direct experience supporting both mobile and SaaS/web release pipelines.
Hands-on experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab CI, Fastlane, Codemagic, or Bitrise.
Experience with mobile release mechanics — code signing, provisioning profiles/certificates, App Store Connect and Google Play Console submission processes, and phased/staged rollouts.
Experience with SaaS deployment models — blue/green or canary deployments, environment promotion (dev/staging/prod), containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes), and rollback strategies.
Strong working knowledge of branching strategies (trunk-based development, GitFlow, release branching) and how to choose/adapt them to team and platform needs.
Experience with artifact and package management tools (Artifactory, Nexus, npm registry, Maven, CocoaPods, or similar), including versioning and dependency governance.
Experience building automated changelog/release notes generation (e.g., from conventional commits, PR metadata, or tools like semantic-release, release-please).
Solid scripting/programming ability (Python, Bash, Groovy, Ruby, or similar) for build automation and tooling.
Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and Git-based workflows at scale, including monorepo/multi-repo considerations.
Understanding of infrastructure-as-code and configuration management (Terraform, Ansible, or similar) as applied to build/release infrastructure.
Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort owning incidents related to failed builds, broken releases, or blocked deployments.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate release timing and expectations across engineering, product, and support stakeholders.
Nice to Have
Experience with feature flag/experimentation platforms (LaunchDarkly, Optimizely, or similar) as part of release management.
Experience with cross-platform mobile frameworks (Flutter, React Native) and how they affect build/release pipelines.
Familiarity with observability and release health tooling (Datadog, Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry) to correlate releases with incidents.
Experience operating in a compliance-conscious environment (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA) with audit-friendly release processes.
Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading build/release standards across a growing team.
